Meet the Criminal Department
Clare Gooding – Solicitor/Head of Department
Michael Jeary – Senior Partner
I founded Jeary & Lewis Solicitors in 1986, and have specialised in Criminal Litigation since 1970. I am a Duty Solicitor, and hold a Higher Rights Certificate to represent clients in the Crown Court. I have always had a strong ambition to represent members of the public who find themselves in conflict with authority.
When I am not busy helping my clients, I enjoy being a computer geek on my Apple Mac, walking my springer spaniels Minnie and Minx and being a Granddad.
Sian Hukin – Legal Assistant
I graduated from the University of Kent with a first class degree in Law and Criminology in 2018. I have been working at Jeary and Lewis since June 2019 and act as a legal assistant to the crime department as a whole. I aim to provide a friendly, non-judgmental and compassionate first point of call to all enquiries entering the department and to assist our solicitors in providing the best service possible to our clients.
I am passionate about trying to prevent miscarriages of justice. During my time at university I was involved in multiple projects with the Law School’s on campus pro-bono law clinic, including working on appeal cases for those convicted under the doctrine of joint enterprise for JENGbA (Joint Enterprise Not Guilty by Association), advising prisoners on their rights while incarcerated in collaboration with the Prisoner’s Advice Service and helping with the administration and running of the Clinic itself by volunteering as a receptionist and first stage representative in the clinic’s committee. It is my aim to be involved in similar projects throughout the rest of my life both in work and my free time.
Terry McCarthy – Solicitor
I have been at Jeary & Lewis Solicitors since 2010. I have many years experience, having qualified as a Solicitor in 1977. I represent clients in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and neighbouring Counties both at the Police Station and at the Magistrates Courts.
